Trimming visible page area
Cropping a PDF changes what's visible without removing the underlying content. It's the right tool for trimming wide margins from a print-designed document before reading on a tablet, focusing a slide-deck PDF on the central content, or normalizing page sizes across a merged document.
Be aware of what cropping doesn't do. The cropped-out content is still in the file, just outside the visible crop box. Anyone with a PDF editor can reveal it. If you need to actually remove sensitive content, use a redaction tool that deletes the page objects, not just hides them.
Crop is also a non-destructive operation in the sense that the original page content stays intact — you can re-crop or un-crop later if you keep the source file. That makes it a safe operation to experiment with for layout adjustments.
