WebP to JPG

WebP is Google's modern image format, offering smaller files than JPG at equal quality. Modern browsers all support it, and it's the default format for many image CDNs. But some workflows still need JPG: legacy image editors (Photoshop versions before 23, older GIMP builds), document tools (Word, PowerPoint, older InDesign), some email clients, and most document-management systems.

The conversion is straightforward — WebP and JPG are both raster formats, and the visual content translates directly. The main decision is quality: a lossy WebP converted to JPG adds a second lossy step (some quality loss), while a lossless WebP converted to JPG introduces loss for the first time. For most photos, quality 85 is the right output setting — visually clean, much smaller than lossless.

If you're converting for web use specifically, also consider JPG to WebP — WebP outputs are typically 25-35% smaller than equivalent JPGs, which matters at scale. But if you're converting because some downstream tool doesn't speak WebP, JPG is the right destination format.
