Image Resizer

The right image size depends entirely on where it'll be displayed. A 4000-pixel photo is overkill for a 600-pixel-wide web article — it loads slowly and serves no visual purpose. A 600-pixel image is inadequate for a print catalog that needs 3000 pixels at print DPI. Resizing matches the image to its destination, and the right match saves bandwidth without sacrificing visible quality.

Three resize modes cover most workflows. Exact dimensions (e.g. 1200×800) is for fixed-layout destinations — a hero image slot, a thumbnail grid, a specific print size. Percentage (e.g. 50%) is for 'make it about half the size' workflows where you don't have a specific target. Max edge (e.g. 1500) is for 'fit within a box' workflows — the image will be at most 1500px on its longest side, with the other side scaled proportionally.

Cropping is a separate concern from resizing. Resize changes dimensions; crop changes which part of the image is visible. If you need a specific aspect ratio (square thumbnail, 16:9 hero), use crop-to-fill mode, which both resizes and crops in one pass. If you just need a smaller version of the same image with the same aspect ratio, plain resize is the right choice.
