Contracts at a glance
Contracts are dense, long, and written in language that's slow to parse even for experienced professionals. A 30-page vendor agreement might have 5 pages of definitions, 10 pages of boilerplate, and 15 pages of actual operational terms — and somewhere in those 15 pages are the clauses that actually matter (payment terms, termination, liability, IP ownership, dispute resolution). A summary tool surfaces those clauses fast.
The right way to use a contract summary tool is as a triage step before reading the full document. The summary tells you: who the parties are, how long the contract runs, what payment is involved, what law governs it, and which clauses look unusual or one-sided. You can then read the full contract with attention focused on the flagged areas, rather than reading every word equally.
What AI contract summary cannot do: replace a lawyer. The AI flags common risk patterns (indemnity clauses that overreach, termination clauses that are one-sided, liability caps that exclude certain damages) but it can miss unusual clauses that don't fit its training. For any contract with real stakes — money, IP, liability — a lawyer's review is essential. The AI tool just makes the lawyer's time more efficient by pointing them at the right clauses.
